  • Head of Pipeline ** urgent **

    Job Description

      The Head of Pipeline is responsible for leading a team in charge of the development, deployment, and support of the Montreal Studio Pipeline. The Pipeline Supervisor does this in conjunction with the Technology Department leadership, as well as studio CG Supervisors and other Technical Leads, in order to maximize the return on investment in any Pipeline enhancements, while minimizing show risk and waste.   

    Responsabilities

     
    • Helps drive the design, implementation, and evolution of a standardized Pipeline Film animation Production. 
    • Leads a team of Department TDs and Pipeline Developers responsible for deploying, configuring, and supporting the existing Pipeline. 
    • Works with the other Head of Pipeline, senior Supervisors and Technical Leads to ensure that the Pipeline meets the needs of the studio at large and diverges as little as possible while still meeting the needs of the individual projects. 
    • Works with Production and Technology Management to ensure adequate support coverage to meet the demands of all active projects. 
    • Acts as an escalation point for Supervisors and Production Management to resolve pipeline and work-flow issues. 
    • Promotes a positive and productive work environment and leads collaborative efforts across the studio. 
     

    Profile

     
    • BS in Computer Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent Industry experience required. 
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in feature film on the post-production side. 
    • Experience managing software, pipeline, and/or technology teams. 
    • Production experience with Maya, Katana, Houdini, Nuke, Mari, Substance familiarity with relevant APIs. 
    • Prior experience working with and developing on with Shotgun or other Production & Asset Management Systems. 
    • Prior development experience with Python in a production environment. 
    • Must be able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. 
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • SUPERVISOR CHARACTER SURFACING ** urgent **

    Project : The Tiger's Apprentice

    Context

    Mikros Animation is currently working on various full CG feature films, including The Tiger's Apprentice directed by Carlos Baena and produced by Paramount Feature Animation, in Paris.       We are looking for a Supervisor Character Surfacing to join our great Character team!    

    Job Description

    Under the supervision of the CG Supervisor Image, the Supervisor Character Surfacing manages the operations of the department, including the look, UV's, textures and shading of the characters.    The Sup relies on both strong technical skills and an aesthetic sense to produce high quality images that are true to the style of the film.  

    Responsabilities

    • Establishe and create the final look of the characters and the necessary presets to achieve the desired final look  
    • Work with Leads & Sups from other Character departments to ensure that assets are consistent with the overall design of the characters in the film  
    •  Work in collaboration with the CG Supervisor to define the texture and shading workflow in relation to the pipeline 
    • Collaborate with the Leads of the relevant departments to prepare the assets for rendering  
    • Responsible for the optimization and consistency of the workflow, tools and resources of the surfacing department Characters  
    • Follow and collaborate on the progress of the tools under development with the teams concerned  
    • Lead and guide his team technically and artistically to establish a high-level quality of the deliverables and to respect the delivery deadlines 
    • Provide creative ideas and solutions to optimize the level of visual and technical quality  

    Profile

    Skills and experience required 
    • Experiences in texture creation and character shading in 3D animation projects   
    • Previous experience as a team manager  
    • Strong creative skills and a thorough understanding of the techniques required to interpret designs and accurately match materials 
    • Excellent understanding of lighting, color, contrast, shade, shadow, and shading  
    • Excellent mastery of Maya, Substance Painter and good knowledge of 3D sculptures  
    • Familiar with the color management issues of feature films.   
    • Good knowledge of the basic principles of 2D painting  
    • Leadership and excellent communication skills  
    • Excellent level of English imperative

    Job Description

    For this project where acting and action are at the heart, we are looking for we are looking for 3D Character Animators with experience and knowledge of the principles of character animation to join our growing team to create fun and stylized work. In our fast-paced studio, we are committed to creating high quality animation and great performances. Candidates will thrive as part of our team under the direction of the Animation Supervisor and Leads aiming together to achieve the film Director’s vision.

    Responsabilities

    Your primary responsibility will be the animation and performances of all assigned characters and props. We are looking for artists with a strong sense of design, an aptitude for facial animation and lip sync while maintaining strong fundamentals in weight, cartoony animation concepts as well as body mechanics.
    • Work with the storyboard/animatic/layout and create feature level, key-framed animation;
    • Working in continuity with shot before and after;
    • Work with animation quotas given by the production;
    • Work closely with Animation Leads and Director to bring the film to life;
    • Prepare elements for presentation in dailies and rounds for approval;
    • Actively participate in creating and maintaining the animation library.

    Profile

    Skills required...  
    • College diploma or equivalent in 3D computer graphics/3D animation;
    • More than 3 years (Mid) or more than 5 years (seniors) of proven work experience in 3D animation using MAYA in a film production/animated TV series;
    • A strong background in feature CG character animation, 2D animation and drawing/design skills, a plus;
    • Strong understanding of the principles of 2D cartoony animation as well posing, timing, weight and facial expressions;
    • Ability to understand and effectively interpret a storyboard and the Director’s feedback;
    • Ability to work within an established pipeline and learn to use custom tools;
    • Knowledge of RV and Shotgun useful;
    • An eye for whacky, cartoony animation, being ok with bending and breaking animation rules;
    • A Team player who has excellent communication skills;

    Responsabilities

    • Work directly with the Animation Director and other Animation Leads to participate in the research of the style and quality targeted for the project by the Director. 
    • Participate in the hiring of their animation team. 
    • Supervise, guide and technically/artistically evaluate their team. 
    • Work on the storyboard/animatic/layout and create interpretations of key-frame animations

    Profile

  • LINE PRODUCER

    Position Overview

      In the context of the development of its animation projects, Mikros Animation Paris and Montreal are looking for a Line Producer.   The Line Producer is a key member of the production team.   He/She manages the production budget, hires and manages key members of the team, while negotiating with the HR, agreements with the artists.   He/She works closely with the Directors, Executive Producer, Artistic Director, CG Supervisor and Heads of Department to manage changes in planning and budget along the way.   During production, he/she is ultimately responsible for the smooth running of the activities and ensures the respect of deliverables, deadlines and costs.   The Line Producer reports to the Head of production of Mikros Animation and directly supervises a team of production managers and coordinators in charge of the manufacturing departments.  

    Responsabilities

     
    • Provide and adapt frequently a detailed project delivery plan to the executive producer and supervisors
    • Provide weekly and monthly progress reports on the outstanding amount and the balance to be produced
    • Plan studio resources to create an effective approach to CG work
    • Build and operate in cooperation with the relevant head of departments a production strategy to guarantee delivery and quality (quota plan / approval charts and reports / …).
    • Ensure that the team understands the objectives and delivery dates of the sequences, research and development projects, etc.
    • Work closely with supervisors to ensure the work schedule is on track and meet quality standards.
     

    Competencies

     
    • A minimum of 5+ years of experience as project manager in CG Animation or VFX.
    • Experience as a producer within a production-oriented environment.
    • Experience in project management with Shotgun software or similar is considered as a great asset.
    • Good understanding of CG processes.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Experience in team management, negotiation and budget management.
    • Experience on an animated feature film is a strong asset
    • A good knowledge of Excel and project management software are valuable for this position

  • CG SUPERVISOR

    Overview

      In the context of the development of its animation projects, Mikros Animation Paris and Montreal are looking for a CG Supervisor.   The CG Supervisor, in collaboration with the Director & Producer (as well as with the Art, Lookdev, Asset Creation/Completion and other Production Departments), develops the technical approach needed to achieve the desired Look and behavior of the assets in a Fully Computer Animated Feature Film.

    Responsibilities

     
    • Identify, define, prioritize, and implement a specific creative workflow process which will enhance the productions creative tools.
    • Create, develop, and build consensus between the Technology, Artists, and Production Management department to assist the Director(s) in realizing their vision(s).
    • Work closely with HR department, Line Producer and producer to define recruiting goals to achieve the appropriate balance of qualified talents.
    • Work with Technology, Lookdev, and Production Management to define and produce R&D goals for the production. These goals should be based on the look, the pipeline, and workflow of all the departments.

    Profile

     
    • Serious knowledge in Maya, ShotGun, Katana, Arnold , Nuke  (Essential)
    • Excellent interdepartmental communication skills ( CG Producer, the artistic department and with the “floor team”)
    • High sense of communication especially with the directors, Line producer , the Art Department and with the  “ floor team”
    • Completely bilingual (French/English)
    • Should have completed one CGI animation movie as a CG sup.
    • Capacity to respect tight deadlines
    • A good knowledge and experience in all areas of 3D (modeling, rigging, texturing, look development, environments, creature FX, lighting and FX)

  • PRODUCTION MANAGER

    Overview

      In the context of the development of its animation projects, Mikros Animation Paris and Montreal are looking for a Production Manager.   Reporting to the Head of Production, the Production Manager has an essential role in production.   He/She is responsible for the day-to-day management of the production activities. He/She guarantees the respect of the schedules, the quality of the deliverables to reach the objectives defined by the production.   He/She works closely with the Head of Production, Producer, CG Supervisor and Departments Supervisors to manage changes in planning.  

    Responsibilities

     
    • Assist the Head of Production in the development of production strategy.
    • Maintain overall production schedule and manage departmental quotas.
    • Make recommendations for improvements to production workflow, particularly with-respect-to scheduling, flow of information and resource management.
    • Send weekly report to the Head of Production with Production Updates.
    • Maintain production crew lists updated.
    • Approve artistes time sheets.
    • Daily interaction with the client on production related needs and deliveries.
     

    Profile

     
    • More than 3 years of experience as production manager or production coordinator.
    • Experience in the production of 3D animation.
    • In-depth knowledge of the production and animation workflow.
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, especially with Excel.
    • Good knowledge of Shotgun software or similar is required.
    • Bilingual French / English is required.

    Job Description

    The Tiger’s Apprentice is a well-balanced animated feature filmFilled with action and emotional moments, based on human AND creature performances.   Under the supervision of their Lead and the Animation Director, the  Animators will be in charge of animating characters and props while ensuring, that the artistic vision of the Director is respected.   Department entries will take place between January and Spring 2021. The entire department as well as the Animation Director will be based in Paris (given the global health crisis, this information may change over time).

    • Carry out global research work per shot on the characters acting

    Job Description

    The Tiger’s Apprentice is a well-balanced animated feature filmFilled with action and emotional moments, based on human AND creature performances.   Under the responsibility of the Supervisor and their Lead, the Layout Match/Confo artists bring a strong knowledge of a large production pipeline and are required to collaborate with various departments. 

    Responsabilities

    • Reconstructing Layout plans from the client with Mikros assets
    • Ensure the validity of the plan (framing, casting, setdressing, duration, )
    • Ensure the validity of the plans sent to downstream departments (Anim, Crowd, CFX, FX)
    • Generate plans for the following departments
    • Build plans for Lighting by gathering the elements of the upstream departments (Anim, FX, Rigging)
    • Set up the plans to validate composition and decoration according to the customer's requests
    • Ensure possible retouching of props (Modeling/Surfacing)
    • Ensure the validity of the plans sent to the Lighting
    • Ensures continuity problems are identified, corrected or escalated
    • Resolve any problems or escalate to the appropriate department
